Overview

Moodle is an open-source learning management system used by schools, universities and companies to run online courses, quizzes, assignments and grading.

The VPS.org one-click install uses Ubuntu 22.04 with Docker. It runs the Bitnami Moodle image with a MariaDB 10 database container, publishes Moodle on port 80, generates a database password, and keeps the database files in /opt/moodle/db. Both containers restart automatically.

Moodle needs at least 2 GB RAM; more active users need more. Put a reverse proxy with a Let's Encrypt certificate in front of it before real users sign in, and plan your own backups of /opt/moodle.

Installation Guide

Choose Moodle at checkout. Docker and the containers install on first boot, and the first start of the Moodle container takes several minutes; progress is logged to /var/log/moodle-install.log. The compose file is /opt/moodle/docker-compose.yml.
