Optional daily or weekly backups, free snapshots you can take at any time, and restore from the control panel.
Everything you need to keep your data safe and recoverable
Turn on backups for a server, choose daily or weekly, and pick the time window when they run.
Take a full copy of your server whenever you want, for example before an update or a deployment. Snapshots cost nothing extra.
Restore a backup or snapshot from the control panel, or use it to create a new server. No command line required.
Daily backups are kept for 7 days and weekly backups for 28 days, on every plan.
Backups are stored on the same storage cluster as your server and are not encrypted. Keep your own off-site copy of important data.
Daily backups add 30% to the plan's monthly price and weekly backups add 20%. Snapshots are free.
Simple and scheduled
Enable daily or weekly backups on your server's Backups page and choose the time window.
At the scheduled time, the system creates a compressed image of the whole server, including the OS, files, databases and configuration.
The image is kept on the VPS.org storage cluster in New Jersey until its retention period ends.
Browse your backup history and restore with one click. Your server returns to the exact state it was in.
Backups are an optional add-on for each server. Choose daily or weekly backups and pick the time window when they run.
Daily backups are kept for 7 days and weekly backups for 28 days. Retention is the same on every plan.
Backups run on the schedule you choose and are removed when their retention period ends. Snapshots are copies you take by hand whenever you want, for example before an upgrade or a deployment.
Open your server's Backups page in the control panel, pick a backup and click Restore. Your server returns to the state it was in when that backup was taken.
Yes. Your server is unavailable while the restore runs, which usually takes several minutes and longer for large disks. Plan restores for a quiet period if you can.
Backups cost extra: daily backups add 30% to your plan's monthly price and weekly backups add 20%. For example, daily backups on the $10 plan add $3.00 a month. Snapshots are free.
Not from the control panel. You can restore a backup or snapshot to your server, create a new server from it, or convert a backup into a snapshot. To keep your own off-site copy, copy your data out of the server with tools such as rsync, restic or borgbackup.
No. You can restore only to the moments when a backup or snapshot was taken. If you need point-in-time recovery for a database, use the database's own tools, such as binary logs or WAL archiving.
No. Backups and snapshots are stored on the same storage cluster, in the same New Jersey location, as your server, and they are not encrypted. They protect you against mistakes such as deleted files or a bad upgrade, not against the loss of the location. Keep an off-site copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Yes. You can use any backup or snapshot to create a brand new server. This is great for cloning environments, setting up staging servers, or scaling horizontally.
Backups capture the whole server: the operating system, files, databases, configuration and installed software. When you restore, you get the server as it was when the backup was taken.
A snapshot is a full compressed copy of your server's disk, taken while the server keeps running. Small servers usually finish in a few minutes; larger disks take longer.
Snapshots are free on every server, and scheduled backups are an optional add-on.
